I made this post on another forum but it may be useful here too..
I've managed to increase the signal strength and speed of my three broadband connection. I am using the Huawei E169G USB modem.
I've done 2 things.
Firstly i've updated the software on the modem.
Secondly i've started using a new web browser called google chrome which seems to help speed things up.
I've gone from seeing speeds of 200kbps to 800kbps which is still low but better than it was. My HSDPA signal now flutters between 3 and 4 bars when previously i was lucky to get 1 bar and would frequently drop down to 3G.
Ok here's what i did.
Disclaimer: I offer the example as is. Please use this as a guide at your own risk. I will not be held responsible if anything goes wrong. Its worked for me without a problem - just be warned this changes the software in the modem and i don't kn ow how to restore it.....
1. Uninstall the modem software from my computer
2. Plug the modem in but don't install any of the drivers or software
3. Download the top file from the huawei drivers page (
link)
4. Double click to install the software.
5. Once installed unplug and re-plug the usb modem
6. Start the Mobile partner software
7. Click Tools > Options > Profile Management
8. Click new profile
9. Give the profile a name
10. in the APN box click static and enter three.co.uk
11. Access number is *99#
12 username and password both blank
13. Click save
14. in the main window click connect
Now for the browser
Download and install google chrome
Thats it, you should now hopefully get a bit better connection
Its worked for me with the E169G so maybe it may work for you.
